For General Visitors: Introduction of advanced technologies we are working on

In recent years, in order to solve the serious shortage of organs for transplantation, attempts to increase the number of donated organs are spreading mainly in Europe and the United States, where donor organs that cannot be used for transplantation according to conventional standards are perfused and preserved in a device that mimics a living body to improve organ functions, and then transplanted after evaluation of these organs. Expectations are growing for the development of such devices in Japan as well.

Perfusion System Process Flow
A joint research course "Department of Surgery for Advanced Technology Deployment" has been established for the practical application of this system. We expect that this system will be used in cases where organs are stored for long durations beyond standard donor requirements, or in fatty liver transplants, to maintain successful transplant outcomes.
