I have been appointed to take charge of administration of the Hybrid Medical Research Engineering center. As a respiratory surgeon I have been involved in lung transplant research, the use of thoracoscopic surgery, lung and mediastinal surgery and interventional treatment for airway constriction. Currently, constant advances are being made in the development of medical equipment including the use of robotic surgery. The hybrid center uses among other things one of Japan’s leading high-spec 3D printers and a robotic surgery simulator. Through collaboration between both the medical and engineering departments it will be possible to acquire advanced skills, knowledge and ideas from both sectors, thus making it possible to nurture innovative multidisciplinary professionals’ knowledgeable and proficient in the use of state of the art equipment both in regard to medical and engineering aspects. |
