Message from the Center Director

Yasuhiro Nagata

In 2013, the center was established at Nagasaki University for the "Innovative development of human resources for comprehensive community care". This program is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under "New Paradigms – Establishing Centers for Fostering Medical Researchers of the Future – Doctors for Communities (Docs) – Fostering research-minded General Physicians."

The ultimate aim of this project is to train medical staff capable to readily provide comprehensive community care. In other words, this project aims to train physicians to provide a wide range of medical services by establishing a collaborative support system that includes as many regional health care organizations as possible, in addition to developing a system that fosters physicians that can tackle the many problems associated with a super-aging society.

We want to develop a medical training program that from the get-go not only acknowledges the "medical" part, but also actively promotes the "care" part. Thus, under the umbrella of "comprehensive community care", we embrace a view of medical care that doesn't limit itself to the training of specialists, but that actively fosters a force of general practitioners that actively participate in community medical care. In the long term, our goal for the future is to build a society where patients can receive comprehensive medical care in a strong and healthy Nagasaki healthcare system.

We hope that our work here at Nagasaki University will serve as a social model for Japan and the rest of the world.

We thank all our associates in Nagasaki and a Nagasaki University for their support, guidance and encouragement towards the advancement of this project.
